Introduction

It’s no secret things are changing at lightning speed in government contracting. While exciting, oftentimes these changes lead to extra work for government contractors. We’re happy to report that these we’ll discuss today are very minimal in comparison to the possibilities.

SAM & DUNS Official “Break Up”

The date has been set (again)! Not that it doesn’t face a possibility of being pushed back again, however as we type the date is April 4, 2022, when Dunn & Bradstreet will be removed as a mandatory part of the process to register as a government contractor in the System for Award Management (SAM).

DUNS will still be the keeper of your business credit, much as Transunion and Equifax are to your personal credit. Your business credit will still be utilized in some areas of government contracting, however, it will not play a part in the SAM registration process beyond the reported date above.

For tracking purposes, the government has already assigned SAM registrants a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) to replace DUNS numbers for all registrants, past, and future. Contractors should add the UEI to their capability statements now and moving forward, not to exclude DUNS though. In total, you should have your CAGE Code, DUNS number, UEI, and contact information in your “Corporate Data” section of your statement of capabilities.

New Set-Aside Logos

Some set-asides have updated their logos effective this year, so be sure that if you’ve jumped through the hoops to qualify for these respective set-asides, you have the most up-to-date version of the logo on your statement.

It’s important to mention here that WBENC logos are NOT the official WOSB logo. If you are one peddling a WBENC logo on your statement, be sure to upload your letter to beta.certify.sba.gov so that the Small Business Administration (SBA) knows that you’ve been verified through WBENC and can provide you a legitimate WOSB/ EDWOSB logo so that agencies can receive credit for utilizing your woman-owned small business. Until the SBA recognizes that you’ve been verified, your approval will not show in your Dynamic Small Business Search (DSBS) profile.
